I recently changed from a 256 GB m.2 SSD to a larger 2 TB model. I also have an external hard drive connected. When switching to the new SSD, I thought I needed to install Windows 11 since I had removed my old one that was used as the boot drive. However, my games, apps, and file explorer still show up under the old OS: C partition. Now I’m trying to move my new SSD to be the boot drive, but I’m stuck. I attempted to install Windows 11 from a USB, but it didn’t let me pick the correct drive. It was originally a prebuilt system that I swapped cases and upgraded. Is there a hidden SSD under my motherboard? Could the one I removed have been a fake all along? Honestly, it seems like an option now. My old SSD is still listed as OS C, along with several partitions created by ASUS. The Big Boy E is the new SSD I want to use as my boot drive. Can anyone help me understand why this old partition is running Windows and guide me on installing Windows 11 onto the Big Boy E? I really need it to be my primary storage.

It seems the removal wasn’t your hard drive. You can transfer your operating system to the new storage using a cloning tool. I use Acronis, though it’s a premium option; alternatives are available for free.
