You'll see a list of input devices connected to your system, including audio sources like speakers or headphones. The interface lets you adjust volume levels for each device easily.

This was one of my friend's problems, and he recently entered the Linux community. He didn't get back to me, but somehow resolved it. I don't know exactly how he did it, but it was really appreciated.
