For displaying your desktop automatically at startup (in case you don’t like Metro), go to Taskbar, Properties, navigation, and look for Ps Follow your post. This will give you heads-up notifications.

Last year I owned a nearly identical machine—a Asus G750JW. I ran Windows 7 there (it originally came with Windows 8). It gave me a much smoother experience than the Windows 8 version. I have all the drivers that work with Windows 7, and if you're unsure which ones to choose, just let me know.
