Challenging task with RTX 2070
Hey everyone, just starting out on the forum but I watch a lot of YouTube videos. I have a pretty unusual problem I can't solve, so maybe someone could help me. It gets worse when I try to play Cities Skylines.
The issue is that when I use an empty map for 5 minutes, my computer restarts.
Ps- I bought this GPU before setting up the system and had the same problem on my old Intel machine. Before I figured it out, I was just building a new one anyway.
Details:
- Motherboard: MSI b450 Tomohawk max
- Processor: Ryzen 7 2700X
- GPU: GIGABYTE RTX 2070 Gaming OC 8G
- RAM: Kingston HyperX DDR4 3200C16 2x8GB
- SSD: Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB
- Hard drive: WD Black 1TB
- Power supply: CX750m Corsair
- System settings: Stock, except memory clocked at 3200 on an XMP profile. Clean Windows install, all drivers for MOBO and GPU are up to date, BIOS for MOBO is current.
Phillips 4K TV, HDMI set to 2.0 running 3840x2160@60Hz UltraHD.
I've tried adjusting the fans manually but it didn't help much. The temperature sensors on Hwinfo and Aorus show 60-70°C, but the chip's back plate feels extremely hot, and the heat comes from the front, causing the system to blow hot air. At 68°C it gets so hot it heats up the metal casing at the top of the PC.
Cinebench R15 runs smoothly, and my GPU doesn't overheat.
I play Day of War and Arma 3 without problems, but City Skylines makes everything feel like it's on fire.
I've searched everywhere online for similar issues, but there are no answers on forums like Steam or Games. Maybe someone here can help.
I also read that Micron chips might be problematic. This specific RTX uses a different type of memory compared to Samsung.
You're not sure about the problem, but other games and benchmarks seem to work. You mention reinstalling Windows, so it's possible City Skylines was also reinstalled—clean or from old files? You might want to verify the game files on Steam for integrity. Also, how does your PC actually restart? Does it crash with a BSOD or just shut down normally?
