Hi, I’m using the following components: Ryzen 7 3700X, 4x8GB 3600MHz G.Skill Trident Z RGB RGB, Asrock Phantom Gaming 4 x570, BeQuiet Pure Power 11 80+ Gold 600W, and Saphire Pulse RX 7900 XT. After purchasing the RX 7900 XT, I’ve encountered several issues. My previous setup was an MSI Mech RX 5700 XT, which worked well until I started experiencing complete system crashes—either a black screen on Linux or a green screen on Windows. Eventually, I upgraded to the RX 7900 XT. At first, everything ran smoothly, especially during gaming sessions like CS:GO. However, after researching, I realized the problem might be related to SAM. I updated my BIOS and reinstalled drivers, but crashes persisted when playing more demanding games such as GTA V or Rust. Discord would also crash, accompanied by a pop-up from AMD Adrenaline indicating a driver issue. I tried removing and reinstalling GPU drivers, disabling features like SAM, Freesync, and Anti-Lag, yet nothing resolved the problem. I even reset my BIOS and settings in Radeon software, but crashes continued. Now, with a slower internet connection, I’m considering a Windows reinstall. After that, crashes have worsened. Even with all audio at normal volume, the crew game now crashes frequently. I suspect the issue lies in the audio settings or driver conflicts. I’m at a point where I’m unsure what to do next and am hoping for advice from more experienced users. Thanks ahead for any guidance.

Did you rely on DDU for driver removal? Was the issue present across the entire Windows setup? It could extend beyond just drivers to other components.

I haven't worked with DDU before; there were some older programs to clear both the Radeon Adrenaline software and GPU drivers. The The Crew crashes began during the new Windows setup, Discord crashes occur with both, and I haven't tried other games yet on the updated install—though I think things might get even worse.

Have you explored previous driver iterations?

I haven't tried because I noticed others facing the same issue in earlier versions, but their fixes didn't work for me. I'll attempt older versions and let you know (maybe in a couple of days).

I took the time to try today. The version I was using before was 23.5.2 from May 23rd, and the latest is 23.7.1 from July 6th. I experienced a crash in The Crew again, which suggests the issue might still be present. Should I check older versions?

Your PSU is significantly below the required capacity for that GPU. It will handle a surge exceeding 500W. A minimum of 750W is advised. https://www.igorslab.de/en/amd-radeon-rx...deways/11/

I understand my PSU is underspecified, but it seems the overcurrent protection has only fired once so far. Since then I haven't played AAAs. For the games I’m currently playing, it works fine. I intend to upgrade to at least 850W sometime later this year.

A 600W power supply isn't sufficient for a high-end GPU such as the 7900 XT. It's better to perform a clean uninstall of the DDU driver and stick to only the stable AMD drivers. Skip the optional ones—they can cause issues.

I mentioned 600W isn't enough, but I don’t play very intense games right now, so I should be okay. Still, if I run into too many OCP issues, I can just replace the PSU. I just finished a full Windows reinstall, which is even better than DDU, but the problem remains. I haven’t installed any optional drivers—only the stable ones.
