I've faced IP-grabs before while streaming, and I was hit multiple times. I even had to reset my router completely at night because it wasn't working. I managed to stream for about a week without any issues, but no IP-grabber showed up until today. Someone just posted my full external IP in the chat. HOW? I only streamed Minecraft and kept my connection stable. My internet went down within seconds after being banned. Fortunately, it was only down for a few minutes. Now I'm curious how they could access my IP on Twitch. Aren't they really strict about leaking someone's IP? I have three ports open for my server, which might be how they managed the DDoS attack or just stole my IP. Do I really need to pay for a VPN now? It seems hard to change my external IP even if I turn off my router for hours. What's more important is worrying about those constant DDoS attacks I'm experiencing. Not cool when your whole internet goes down because of someone else's bad program. I didn't click any suspicious links—I just got my IP in the chat.

Are you participating in a Minecraft server? Then someone there might be acting inappropriately. Twitch doesn't show your IP address; it only sends traffic to Twitch, which then sends it to viewers. To reveal your IP, you'd need to use Minecraft itself. It's also possible they track you on another platform that exposes your IP. This could happen if you clicked a link in Discord or something similar earlier. A VPN might be useful, but you should consider whether the benefits outweigh the costs.

I was playing on Hypixel, specifically the zombies minigame, but I’m unsure how they’d identify which lobby I was in if their origin came from Twitch. It’s also unclear how they could track my Twitch account if I were on the same Minecraft server. This situation happened a couple of times before, and it always involved a Minehut server. That might explain why they could easily get my IP address then. Minehut isn’t the most secure platform. My guess was that they could simply obtain my information from another source using that name. I don’t have a Discord server for Twitch, and I never click any links posted in my chat. A VPN isn’t an option for me right now because I’m just a 17-year-old student. I don’t want to waste the money I earn on a VPN, especially since my GPU is failing and I need a new one quickly. If I ever decide to stream full-time or try part-time streaming, maybe I could consider investing in a VPN. Otherwise, figuring out exactly how they got my external IP remains a mystery.

I notice how you claim you can't imagine any method they might use to follow you... Then dismiss that idea by pointing out the same name appears everywhere. Regardless, whoever it is, they likely have connections to the server owner or employ some kind of trick to obtain your Minecraft IP. I’d recommend joining a private server managed by trusted people—or switch to another game for a while until they move on.

Yeah well i mean i still have my old username on most platforms, only got my new name on presumably SAFE platforms like discord, minecraft, twitch. Maybe some other big company games/platform that i would THINK is safe from IP-grabs. Yeah, but like shouldnt Hypixel be more secure when it comes to IP-grabs. And then the fact that i was in a minigame lobby with 2 of my friends and 1 random person. No way that last random person could find my twitch just based on my minecraft name. As i said, my username still has loads of other letters in it, as i got me and my friends "clan" tag first (which is basically just a string of what looks like random letters for most people). So i still doubt they could find info based on my twitch/minecraft name.

A Minecraft server isn't just for you and your friends—it usually has a host lobby where you join these smaller worlds. Anyone with access to the server’s core (yours or someone else) can quickly locate your username and IP address. If they’re already watching on Twitch and see you playing, they might have the IP info and easily track you down. With a fixed IP, someone who previously shared it online could also reuse it to find you.

It might be one of those options. I’m thinking about skipping Hypixel servers for a while. Changing my IP isn’t as simple as switching my MAC address, but I’d like to make sure it stays secure.

You really can't alter your MAC address, meaning it can't be spoofed—unless you modify your hardware. Your IP address depends on your ISP. You might contact them, mention the leak, and continue facing issues like DDOS attacks.
