I registered with uppercase letters. Now I can log in with either all caps or lowercase. The case doesn't matter.

yes that's your username which isn't case-sensitive. it will always be lowercase. your displayname is shown from the link next to community (looks like all caps like other header links). in that profile you can see your current set displayname, which you can change. check above. i have different names for my username and display name because my account was created with my old username.

The name at the top of your friend's list box is your display name and can be changed. I thought you meant there should be capital letters in your display name while playing games so others can recognize it. I explained how to adjust that for visibility, keeping your login name unchanged.
