Thanks a lot for the detailed guidance. I really value getting a clear grasp of what I'm doing instead of just memorizing steps. It helps me understand my setup better, especially with home networks where my computer knowledge isn't always enough. Both the home network and laptop are configured privately. I've set up a password for accessing shares from any device. When I enter the desktop's IP address in File Explorer on the laptop, the shares appear to work, but I still can't see them as clearly as with other devices or network equipment like my Sonos, wireless gadgets, and media server.

I've encountered these problems repeatedly. Most often, I just map the network drive.

It seems this feature is surprisingly difficult to execute smoothly on Windows. One might expect it to work effortlessly!
