Your heatsink fan operates at high speed during startup, causing a BSOD. The BIOS temperature reading doesn't reflect reality—it likely indicates an overheat warning from Auto overclocking. A 10,000 rpm HSF is either stock or low-profile, and no tower with such a fan will have that speed. The best low-profile models run under 2000 RPM. I was uncertain about the RPM choice; it seems random. My V8 GTS Heat Sink shows 1600 RPM idle on SpeedFan, and it reports cooler CPU temps than CoreTemp at 22°C. The fan noise becomes extremely loud when Auto Overclock activates.

Your CPU also needs more voltage when running at higher frequencies. Still, I wouldn’t go too far—those FX chips are quite power-hungry and I’m unsure if the 970 board can handle your chip above 4.6ghz. You probably know how unbalanced your system is; an overclock will help a bit, but you’ll still face bottlenecks in most games. Maybe think about saving for a Ryzen 1600 or 1500x and a b350 board instead? In most titles, I suspect your 1080ti is acting like a GTX 970. Thanks for the advice, but I’m not in a position to upgrade right now, which is why I’m reaching out for overclock guidance. A 2014 AMD chip would definitely limit a 1080 Ti, but I’d rather not spend $400 on a new motherboard and CPU when I could easily get an overclocked FX 8350 and a higher-end AM3 socket board.

This doesn't seem correct even at maximum RPM, shouldn't the V8 be completely silent? Do you have sufficient airflow in your setup?
