I've been checking for an XMP setting in the BIOS, but when I access the performance menu, the system freezes and stops working after a few seconds. Once it restarts, everything seems normal. Someone, please help me figure this out.

device type is Alienware M17XR4 with BIOS Alienware A10 from June 29, 2012. The BIOS is quite old, but I'm worried about making mistakes during the update that could damage the laptop.

There is a certain risk of something going wrong but I've updated the BIOS of my desktop a few times on a smart switch that could technically malfunction and turn off my power even if it shouldn't. I've also done it on my laptop I use for school and on my gaming laptop and so far nothing has ever gone wrong. I would try updating the BIOS to the most recent version just to be sure. You in particular can't do anything wrong really. Just make sure it's plugged in and be patient Edited September 9, 2022 by DreamCat04
