I'm planning to get another gaming PC. After my parents broke up, I'm weighing the decision. The new one is identical to the current one except for a different cooler. Can the cooler I choose support some strong overclocking? And what's the maximum GHz it can handle for overclocking?

well, unless you're playing at 4k, it doesn't make much difference. The 1080 works fine for most situations.

Well, the important thing is the type of motherboard you possess. Yes, you have an overclockable CPU, and that's a plus. However, unless your motherboard is based on a Zxxx platform, you won't be able to overclock it.

With your Kraken cooler, you might achieve around 4.7/4.8 GHz. But results vary depending on the specific chip.

I believed he inquired regarding the cooler compatibility, so I mentioned he could despite the motherboard

Well, the mobo is more important than just a cooler. He could easily change it to a stock one, though maybe not much, but he could still do it.

parani :
I thought he asked about that coolers compatibility so I said he can regardless the mobo
without a z170/z270 there is no OCing.

I was considering two options; the Asus Prime Z270-A or the Asus ROG Strix Z270E Gaming. But he mentioned that anything starting with Zxxx doesn't work.?
