Found a way to pull an old Windows 7 Home Premium key from a retired laptop. Can you reuse it in a fresh setup?

It seems like you're asking about activating something on an old laptop, but the context is a bit unclear. Could you clarify what you mean by "de-activate" and "old laptop"? That way I can provide more accurate guidance.

Just download the Windows 7 ISO file and apply the activation key.

Reach out to Microsoft and request the key be disabled since it is linked to your laptop.

OEM license keys typically differ from retail keys. This explanation addresses the issue discussed. A relevant forum post is available here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windo...231?auth=1

It's disappointing, but maybe it's worth giving it another shot.

Your Windows installation is linked to the PC you bought. You can't move that license to another device. Upgrade parts or accessories on your current machine and retain your license. Swap the motherboard for a matching model or an OEM equivalent if needed. But if you modify or replace the board yourself, your OEM license becomes invalid. OEM licenses aren’t supported by Microsoft directly—any changes reset your support. OEM versions are tied to the original computer and don’t include free Microsoft assistance. Upgrading from an older OS with OEM software isn’t possible.
