I purchased a Cambridge Audio music file server and a Buffalo NAS for storing files. I've never built something like this before. I've mostly completed the setup. My home network recognizes the NAS, but the Cambridge Audio doesn't. I placed some music files on the NAS, following the documentation that required software to make it visible. I believe UPnP might be involved. When I contacted Buffalo about enabling UPnP, they advised I only need it if I want the NAS accessible outside my home network, which I don't intend to do. Should I require any software on the NAS? Do you have suggestions?

The Cambridge device connects to the rest of your network through a specific link. You can access it by linking to this item.

My device has an app named StreamMagic on my Android tablet from Cambridge Audio. It manages the unit, but I'm having trouble connecting it to the NAS.

Yes, apart from StreamMagic and Cambridge, your tablet is capable of accessing files on the NAS.

I don't understand how to perform that task on your Android tablet. You can view the NAS and files from the Windows computer on your network.

UPNP (or DLNA, though not identical) is unrelated to external network access. It's a protocol connecting media players with media servers. Try enabling it and check functionality. Windows may recognize Buffalo NAS if SMB support is enabled by default. Android doesn't support SMB unless you install paid applications.

I couldn't find out how to do that. I did reset the NAS. There are a lot of options that I don't know if I should turn them on or off. The manual is 147 pages and full of things that I don't understand. There is a quick-start quite, but it just tells you how to plug it in and turn it on.
I've emailed Cambridge Audio to ask for more help. But they are in England and I'm in the US, so at best I get a reply the next day.

Make sure the DLNA configuration is set on the NAS. Look for "DLNA" in the LinkStation 200 User Manual.
