Can you try increasing your i7 7700k's clock speed beyond 4.6ghz, or does it seem like the CPU might be faulty?
Can you try increasing your i7 7700k's clock speed beyond 4.6ghz, or does it seem like the CPU might be faulty?
I have an i7 7700k with an asrock z270 taichi and corsair h110i liquid cooler. I only overclock using the ez overclock option in the bios, where there is a profile for 4.6ghz up to 5.0ghz. I tried the 4.6ghz profile and ran rog real bench; with cpu-z, the temps were 370 and 4.6ghz passed the 15-minute stress test. When I used the 4.7ghz profile and ran rog real bench with cpu-z, my processor only reached 4.6ghz. This is unusual because with intel extreme tuner it would go up to 4.7ghz. Does this suggest a defective CPU, a faulty GPU, or an issue with my motherboard?
Understand the proper OC techniques, as the ez oc methods usually require more voltage and heat than needed for a specific speed.
13thmonkey shares insights on proper OC techniques, noting that excessive voltage often leads to higher temperatures than expected for a specific speed. They mention confusion about their system's behavior despite known issues, such as consistent temperatures even with default settings and unchanged temps regardless of fan speeds. They also discuss troubleshooting steps taken, including manual overclocking and adjusting voltage, but remain uncertain about the best path forward.
13thmonkey shares insights on proper OC techniques, noting that they often require higher voltage and temperature than necessary for a specific speed. They mention manual overclocking doesn't change results, as fan speeds remain consistent regardless of settings. The issue stems from the new open box motherboard, which caused CPU problems during installation. Initially set to default 4.2GHz, it ran at 4.5GHz during realbench tests, while BIOS frequency stayed at 4.2GHz. There seems to be an inconsistency with products sold on Newegg.
