i'm assembling a new pc and chose the new i3 6100 skylake processor. while browsing, i noticed a sata express port on the motherboard i was planning to purchase. it has one sata express port and six sata 6gb/s ports. i wanted to know if i could connect my standard 1tb hard drive (7200rpm) to this sata express port. is it compatible? if yes, will there be any noticeable difference in performance compared to connecting it to a regular sata 6gb/s port? additionally, is sata express only for high-speed ssd storage devices? please explain simply.

You can connect to either of the two SATA 3.0 ports included in the SATA Express port, but it doesn't provide any benefit for standard drives. The ports are backward compatible, allowing normal usage.
