Can you increase the clock speed of this CPU and what the limits are?
Hello everyone, I want to express my gratitude in advance for your efforts in assisting me.
My mobile or CPU is an Intel I5 4690K with a Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3.
I’m explaining my current cooling setup. I’ve purchased a CPU fan (link provided) that should arrive tomorrow, so I can install it on my PC. Until then, I’m using the existing fan to keep things running.
Right now, I’m trying to understand how much overclocking is possible with my current CPU and how to achieve it, as I’m completely unsure.
Thank you all again.
Yes, you have an overclockable K CPU and a Z series motherboard, which allows for overclocking. The extent of overclocking depends on your case cooling, the stability of your power supply, the quality of your cooler or paste, and how fortunate you were with the chip itself. Under identical conditions, a 4690K can reach around 4.1 GHz, while another might hit 4.3 GHz—this is largely due to luck.
Besides what boosted1g mentioned, you should also consider testing with Prime95 version 26.6. I usually perform tests using Small FFTs for 10 to 30 minutes. Here is a useful link to the Intel Temperature Guide by CompuTronix that can assist you in getting started with overclocking.
