Can you connect your Wi-Fi routers one after another like a necklace?
Can you connect your Wi-Fi routers one after another like a necklace?
The first step is the ISP which connects to a router (called a gateway). This goes to a POE switch, then two switches for Building 1 and Building 2, followed by APs in both buildings. The UCG comes from this link at https://store.ui.com/us/en/pro/category/.../ucg-ultra and gives you the gateway and management console. You can get these POE switches (like a Lite 8) at https://store.ui.com/us/en/pro/category/...lite-8-poe. If your ceilings are normal, put a special AP on top of them, then use the U6 lite model for cheap service at https://store.ui.com/us/en/pro/category/...ts/u6-lite. But if you have bad weather or high/low temperatures and humidity, pick an outdoor unit like the Swiss Army Knife (UK version) at https://store.ui.com/us/en/pro/category/...s/uk-ultra instead. If you do buy one of these things, get a short 10-foot ethernet cable and make sure everything is set up right. Then move to buildings from home. If it still doesn't work correctly, then it's just the cables that are broken.
Building 3 doesn't need a special power switch. You can use the regular power from Building 2 and only put in an Access Point.
Sure, those switches we talked about have four PoE ports. One is for the wireless router, and three are for other devices. If you need more PoE ports, there are models with them. That wasn't required in your first message.
Thanks again to Kanewolf... I'm going to check out some suggested gear.
I know it's been a while, but my Fiber actually got here! It took about two years to reach this spot. Will the old gear still work for me? I have a new router (or gateway) from Spectrum that is a 6E model.
Since spectrum gave us the gateway, can I just use that to go straight into a POE switch before reaching Building 2? Then from there, I'd need another switch in Building 3 so cameras and other stuff can connect properly. Is that right or do I need more switches?
