I'm planning a new PC soon, but my job still requires me to use my Mac from time to time. I want to keep my old iMac connected as a wired secondary screen for the PC, switching to macOS when needed. Unfortunately, nothing is available online because my Mac doesn't support Target Display Mode (TDM). I'd rather use the Mac as a second monitor instead of buying another one due to cost and space concerns. The Mac is a 2015 iMac 4K 21.5" with an Intel Core i7 processor. It has DisplayPort and HDMI outputs. I'm looking for a way to connect it directly to the PC's GPU, preferably using a USB-A port on the Mac side (since Thunderbolt ports aren't available). I'd like some settings on the Mac or a simple cable solution, maybe with free software. I've tried Bootcamp/Miracast for secondary display, but I'd prefer a direct wired connection. Thank you in advance!

The only method for it to function on an external display is using another Mac. A few Imacs can act as additional displays for other Macs. The only way I've heard of connecting it to PCs is through modifying the hardware, but that won't suit your need to keep the screen as a Mac. Could there be software available for wireless screen projection?

Hi there, I saw that video but according to Apple, the latest iMacs (not older than 2014) don<|pad|> a lack Target Display Mode support. I was looking for a wired setup that didn’t require it, since my iMac is from 2015.

I was looking for a hardwired option that connects straight to the GPU, serving as an alternative if a second monitor isn’t available. I understand TDM for PCs, so I’m checking for unofficial approaches with comparable ports.

It seems the setup lacks a displayport, but only Thunderbolt is available. The best option is to connect an Ethernet port to the same router and use it as a remote display. This won’t match dedicated GPU connections, but it should suffice for light tasks. It’s definitely superior to wireless or Miracast solutions.

There don’t seem to be any wired choices since the ports are video outputs instead of inputs.
