I want to raise the clock speed of my i5 6600k from 3.5ghz to 4.2. Here are my details:
Gpu: gtx 1070 zotac amp edition
Psu: evga supernova g2 850w
Cpu: i5 6600k
Cpu cooler: evo 212
Mobo: z170 gaming 3
Ram: hyper x 2133mhz ddr4
Storage: 120gb kingston ssd and 1tb Seagate hd
If you need more info just let me know.
Some advice on overclocking would be helpful since this is my first attempt. I plan to increase voltage by .1 then aim for 4.2 with a 1.3 vcore boost in steps of 100 mhz.

Hi and welcome to Tom's forum.
First, verify the stock voltage settings until you're ready to proceed. Disable power saving options, turbo settings, and C-Stage features in your BIOS. This allows you to start at 100MHz and assess stability... simply by running normal activities like games, browsing the web, or using programs such as prime95 or Intel Burn Test. The real test comes from maintaining stable performance during regular daily tasks.

Please share your findings and remember to adjust only the CPU frequency. In the future, you can modify other parameters once you achieve a stable CPU overclock.

Yes, it's a safe approach to overclock with this equipment. Just keep in mind that every piece of hardware has its limits.

I owned an EVO 212 and was extremely satisfied. I boosted my 3770k with it. Of course, you won't hit the CPU's maximum output, but the cooler will definitely perform well.

Some advice on overclocking would be helpful since this is my first attempt. I plan to increase voltage by .1 then try to hit 4.2 with a 1.3 vcore boost in 100mhz steps. You might start with small voltage changes and gradually raise them while watching for instability.

Yes, keep in mind that a 212 evo isn't the top choice, which means it might restrict your chances of hitting very high overclocks—yet you should still manage around 4.2Ghz on a 6600k. Good luck!
