An outdated power supply with a double forward design isn't suitable for driving a modern high-performance GPU that demands intense power bursts. Upgrade it!
It might be the RAM, cables, GPU, or motherboard. I don't believe it's the power supply unit. You should try swapping out different components to identify the issue. Consider testing with a new GPU or a different RAM stick. Alternatively, using a single RAM module could help.
The issue arises when tests push the system to its limits, or near… that’s what the PSU is built for. If you watch YouTube or play a game, even when idle, there are sudden spikes. That’s because the PSU wasn’t designed for those conditions (especially with newer GPUs that generate more spikes). So it’s definitely the PSU’s fault.
I've been considering this too, but how would it manage it for weeks of identical games in the same tuning mode? It didn't work smoothly at first. This problem began on the same day drivers 22.3.1 were released, yet the issue persisted after DDU and reinstalling the old driver.

I attempted to check but by then it was too late, only having recoverable states afterward. I’ll send the card under warranty since support suggested it might be a GPU issue and they wanted testing. With four weeks at work and no access to my PC, I’ll proceed as planned. Then I’ll hear their response if the problem lies with the cards.
Hopefully it's just the GPU and they already sent a replacement when you return. I've used a PSU for over a decade without any problems, especially during free play sessions in WoW. If you don't have a multimeter or aren't comfortable checking live wires while it runs, you could try one of those 2xMolex to 6/8-pin cables and test if that's the issue. It's not perfect, but it's affordable—just a few dollars—and if the PCIe power isn't working, this method lets you check alternative power paths until you can get another unit.
the other pcie card you checked in the same port, which displayed only 2x for the gpu, actually indicates the gpu itself is the issue.
