Can the PSU cables be extended?
Hello, I understand this might seem unusual, but I need to learn this since I'm planning to install a custom system. Could extending the cables from the power supply to the motherboard by 2 meters cause any issues? Is there a way to do this without problems? Thanks in advance.
A distance of two meters is quite extensive, isn't it? At this scale, you'd need to create the components yourself, and you might require more robust wire than usual. However, the connections could also pose a challenge, along with the growing resistance as the length increases.
Thank you for your response. Because of the PSU's size, I'll need to keep it away from the motherboard, GPU, and other parts. I don't want it in the installation where only the PSU is installed as an image. That's why I want it to be far away. I can handle making the cables myself, I have the skills, but I'm concerned this might affect the system. You said the resistance will increase—does this be a short-term or long-term issue? Is there a way to do this without any problems?
Greater resistance will remain a persistent challenge with longer cables of that size. You might notice voltage drops affecting sensitive parts, leading to system instability, overheating of the power supply, melted connectors, and shorter component lifespan. A high-quality PSU could help somewhat, but I believe 2 meters is already pushing performance limits based on power use.
Why specifically? How does the volume of the PSU affect anything?
Does your PC case lack sufficient space for the chosen PSU model?
Isn't it possible to obtain a different PSU model or a compatible PC case model?
What does that mean? "Install the PSU as an image"
Are you planning to print a picture of the PSU on paper and position this image where the PSU should be installed?
This seems quite unusual.
