It's actually an Epson Expression Photo XP-760. The 202 page User Guide covers all the basics and troubleshooting, but not removing the cover. For that, you'll need a maintenance manual. I'm planning to scan large books, and the cover makes it almost impossible. A detachable cover seems like a clear necessity for a scanner.
