Can the Corsair H80 handle overclocking of an i7 6700k?
I recently bought a new Skylake i7 6700K processor paired with an Asus Maximus VIII Hero motherboard and am running the cooler masters HAF X case. I have an older Corsair H80 cooler from when I used my i7 2600K and I'm asking whether it works with the 1151 socket. Additionally, I want to know if the H80 is adequate for overclocking the Skylake chip or if an upgrade would be better.
Yes, it works with the 1151 socket. It also depends on the specific overclock you're aiming for; a 0.5 GHz increase seems reasonable.

It works with the 1151 socket. The overclock choice is still being thought about, but a 0.5 Ghz increase seems reasonable. I'm leaning toward 4.5 to 4.8 Ghz.
Karadjgne:
4.3GHz at 70°C on a 3570k on a h55 is manageable. P95v26.6. Skylake processors tend to be cooler, and the H80 offers strong cooling performance, almost matching the h100i. A reasonable overclock should work fine.
Thanks for the details
I’m currently running my i7 2600k overclocked to 4.6 Ghz, and the H80 keeps core temps below 50°C. I was curious about its performance with Skylake. Good to hear they handle it well!
The H80 is compatible and functions excellently with the i7 6700k skylake chip. After overclocking to 4.5GHz, the core temperatures remain below 50°C.
