Starting a new budget setup, I'm planning to replace my DDR4 3200 with a different configuration. Right now, I'm running at 5GHz on the core and 4.7GHz in cache, using 4x8 DDR4 3200 modules. I can't push beyond 3466 MHz for these chips, but I noticed Intel tends to perform better with RAM above 4000MHz. I’m considering a kit priced at $109 that supports 16GB DDR4 288-pin DDR4 SDRAM. Should this work on the 8th gen IMC/Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 5, or could it reach around 4133 MHz as advertised?
It seems unless you're constantly comparing performance, extra RAM doesn't really make a big difference in your experience. For me, it's not worth the extra cost.

i can only verify cl16 3866 4x8 on a 8600k with SA/IO at 1.2v, never had time to test anything above 4000. i’m leaning toward 4133 being a solid choice if sa/io stays under 1.25v. 4400 could be risky (limited to 2x8), and i wouldn’t push it over 3866 16-16-16. i’d avoid betting on 4x8 unless it’s z390. Buildzoid mentioned mid-range boards struggle past 4x8 3866. I upgraded from cl16 3866 2x8 to cl14 3733 4x8 on my z390, which gave a 10% boost in hitman, 2077, though gains were modest (1-2%) elsewhere. overall, 4 sticks seemed more beneficial than 14 sticks. i was also checking geekbench5 and saw a z390 apex 2x8 4500 outpace my 4x8 3733 by about 1%, which is a small win but still an improvement. it’s not a huge jump, but it counts as progress, especially compared to a 5800x oc which would be even slower. the original sticks i ran cl16 3866 with were rated cl19 4266; i’m unsure if the 18-26-26 patriot sticks outperform standard 14-14-14 3200 with an overclock.
