Hi Everyone. I’m Steve, and this is my debut here.
I’m based in SE London, UK, and I’m passionate about old computers from before 1990—especially the 8-bit models. I also enjoy AMIGAS, microcontrollers, and diving into audio electronics. My interests span hard sci-fi, dystopian stories, speculative fiction, and horror. I found Blade Runner acceptable but not quite what I expected.

My question is about intentionally overclocking. Right now in the UK it’s Guy Fawkes night.
I own an old Toshiba Satellite laptop running an Intel Celeron (shitteron) 900 processor. I’m curious if there’s a way to push this CPU beyond its limits so it might catch fire. I plan to record it as part of a destruction video I want to create, showing how much I dislike this machine. I found it in the bin cupboard of my partner’s flat—another old ACER laptop.

Can I really make this mother explode with some intense flame effects? Am I just dreaming?
Thanks,
Steve.S

I see what you are asking, but NO, there is no way to do that. Most laptops cannot overclock at all, simply the BIOS doesn't have the needed settings to do that. Even if you could overclock it, it would never catch fire, as it would just shut down due to thermal protection when it gets too warm.

Hi Kasper, thanks for the help. I think the bonfire is gone. I’ll just destroy the Granny and record it instead!! 😊
Cheers and all the best,

Hi everyone. This is my first post here.
YAAAAY.
My name is Steve. I’m based in SE London, UK, and I’m passionate about old computers from before 1990—especially the 8-bit models. I also enjoy AMIGAS, am part of the vintage computer forum, love microcontrollers, and am deeply into audio electronics. My interests span hard sci-fi, dystopian stories, speculative fiction, and horror. I thought Blade Runner was fine, but not quite what I expected.
My question is about intentionally overclocking. Today in the UK is Guy Fawkes night.
I own an old Toshiba Satellite laptop with an Intel Celeron (shitteron) 900 processor. I’m curious if there’s a way to push this CPU beyond its limits so it might catch fire. I’d like to record it as part of a destruction video I want to create, showing the laptop being destroyed—something I really dislike. I found it with another old ACER laptop in the bin cupboard at my partner’s flat...
Can someone help me see if it’s possible to blow this unit up with some intense flame effects? Or am I just dreaming.
Thanks,
Steve.S

Oh wow, it was perfect! I’ll use the USB killer on the other laptop since I have two and the one with 80GB HDD deserves it.
