Last December, I purchased a gaming laptop with specifications including an i7 7700HQ processor running at 2.80 GHz, 4GB of RAM, and a GTX 1050 graphics card with 2GB of video memory. Will it handle current games at a decent frame rate?

You may experience difficulties playing numerous games on systems equipped with only 4 gigabytes of RAM. However, by increasing your memory to at least 8 gigabytes – and preferably 16 gigabytes – you can typically run most games at a resolution of 1080p, provided you don’t significantly raise the graphics settings.

Also, could you tell me which games are playable on those specifications?

Boosting your laptop's memory is beneficial, allowing it to smoothly run many demanding video games.

Hello

The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti isn't typically designed for smoothly playing modern games with high graphics settings at 1080p and a frame rate of 60 frames per second; you'll likely need to reduce your visual quality to low or medium levels.

It generally performs well with competitive games at higher settings, such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Overwatch, League of Legends, and Dota 2. However, when new, graphically intensive titles are released, it might encounter difficulties and require some adjustment of settings to achieve a playable experience. Certain games, like Tomb Raider and Assassin's Creed, will likely have performance issues even with reduced settings. Fortnite should usually run adequately at lower to medium configurations.

Each game is unique, and some heavily depend on your processor, so you should try different configurations. For example, Battlefield 5 is relatively optimized and can deliver a consistent 60 frames per second on the 1050 Ti with some tweaking.

Good luck!

What would be the cost of an upgrade to my RAM? Will adding an M.2 solid-state drive improve performance?

A solid-state drive won’t resolve insufficient memory. Regarding the amount needed, it varies based on your location.

However, a difficulty exists because my computer is still covered by its manufacturer's guarantee. Will this warranty be invalidated if I install new components?

Consult the manufacturer for details. Frankly, any firm offering a gaming laptop in 2018 or 2019 featuring only 4GB of RAM employs dubious promotional strategies.
