Can I speed up my GTX 970? Please advise!
I need to upgrade my 970 with Zotac Firestorm. I'm using an i3-3220 and have a Corsair VS550 PSU. If it's possible, can I overclock the GPU? Could there be any bottlenecks? Also, could you recommend some suitable OC settings, like how much to increase core and memory speeds? Thanks!
It is suggested to apply the overclock before beginning testing. Starting the test program first and then adding the OC is not recommended. 3DMark and Unigine Heaven are suitable for initial GPU benchmarking.
Yes, you can definitely change the graphics card settings. Just keep in mind the quality of your power supply isn't perfect, so avoid overdoing the extra voltage.
Begin with a 100-150 MHz increase on base clocks and gradually raise in smaller steps. If the graphics driver crashes or you see a blue screen, you've reached your limit, and reduce it slightly from there.
Prefer MSI Afterburner over Zotac's tool; it supports any brand card.
Here are some recommended stress test apps that can run in the background during overclocking:
- Heaven 4.0
- Other recommended stress testing tools (specific names may vary)
These apps are designed to help detect artifacts and performance issues while you adjust your card's settings.
Looking for stress test apps that run smoothly in the background while overclocking your card? You might want to consider options like Unigene Heaven benchmarks.
