The design isn’t wide enough for side support and the tray bottom holes don’t match. Still, can you proceed with HD without fully securing it?
Verify that the side screws are properly aligned. The 3.5” disk is inserted through the bottom as usual.
Recent hard disk drives (over the last five years) often skip the middle screws, suggesting chassis design changes. Limited room exists for screw holes on high-platter models. You might rely on the front screws alone, but if the drive is upside down you’d need side screws too.
