Can I rotate the display and keep my keyboard working when using the Lenovo Yoga 7i?
yeah you hit your mark from start to finish. That Rotation Lock right there on the Display Settings menu works fine as long as i have a separate keyboard and trackball or mouse anyway. I hope I never need to use that keyboard while flipping backwards like that, otherwise just use the cloth. Device Manager says disable sensor, i think it's a decent setup. The bluetooth on these devices is kinda flaky if they aren't directly in front of the laptop. Considering a Logitech MX Master 3S mouse or something, I tried a USB bluetooth adaptor with a range of 100 feet, which did okay. Besides, if i went behind any object (still using this Elecom trackball, which feels very light and plastic but the ball bearing is nice for it), RDP on my phone doesn't do anything as nice as directly using touchscreen on the laptop. But I wonder if there would ever be a way to scale the phone screen or Mouse apps on phone or best for now might be ScreenCast from the phone, and rotate the monitor to Portrait orientation not sure which Windows app can do the Screencast... anyways hmm what else, is there a way to like use the whole laptop touchscreen as a trackpad? ah i got it. Windows Settings > Personalization - Taskbar (or just search Touch Pad) and enable virtual touchpad in the system tray, and go click that to open it nice setup! thanks!
I think maybe, I will still work fine as usual. But my setup is changing sometimes and more complicated software makes things harder, especially if you want something that works everywhere. Like, I have a monitor on a VESA mount that can stand up or lie down flat. Even though I turned off all the sensors in Device Manager, there are still some problems with portrait mode. First thing first: If I open my laptop so wide it is flat and past 180 degrees, the sensor is gone but keyboard and trackpad work great. But when my laptop is just normal size, there are issues even though the sensor is off. I think this is because of turning that sensor off. I can turn on "Portrait Display" in settings and keep it like that. But if I have the sensor turned off, as soon as I leave the screen, my displays go back to landscape automatically. Maybe I could use Extend instead of Duplicate Displays or pick a time when the sensor comes on and goes off. And even if I only want the big external screen, turning the sensor off still causes that magnet problem if I fold the laptop the other way around. When keyboard and trackpad face up but the screen is underneath facing down, as soon as I close the sides of the laptop shut, it triggers a magnetic sensor to turn off the touch. Unless I put a thin cloth or blanket between them. It would be super easy without all that hassle to undo "smart" Windows solutions. I could fold my laptop just to use it for keyboard and trackpad with big screen, then unfold and use touchscreen. Or in portrait mode and have two screens like one big one. There is some reflection if the laptop screen goes under, so I want to just use it as a keyboard for the big screen. Basically, I figured out most of this but now I need to navigate through these weird spots since turning off the sensor makes sense for one mode but maybe I need to turn it back on for others. Maybe if that makes sense, I just had to gather some data and sort it all else; maybe even I will use a separate keyboard and mouse anyway. Not sure if there is a good trackpad attached to a keyboard like a laptop. Would be kinda cool. Yeah, found one at Amazon.com Logitech k400
so i might have to use peripherals for portrait mode. or Extended display. which means i can't quite as easily have the Laptop as a mirrored Duplicate touchscreen tablet for the large screen, while unfolding to use as keyboard/trackpad. Landscape mode is mostly intuitive if i at least tuck a cloth under it to keep it a centimeter open and have sensor disabled. works really great. Then I can still use portrait mode on the large screen, but use the laptop in any regular or folded mode. Really great. just if i do both on mirrored (i mean copy, not mirrored-opposite) Duplicate screen, i just can't use the keyboard. maybe could use an external one or on-screen keyboard. otherwise i can skip optimizing this config and have one side Landscape. not both on portrait. 👍
