Your Dell Precision T3400 supports an LGA 1155 motherboard. After upgrading to a Core i7 3rd gen processor, you should be able to fit it. For the case type, choose between ATX or Micro ATX based on your preference and space.

There is a chance it could work... I have done it before with some other machines but dell... really doesn't like following "standards". If you are going that far, it isn't much more to a replacement power supply and case as well. A good case and power supply will running about $120 or so. Maybe a little more.
