I have an AMD Athlon X4 860k with the built-in fan. I’m not planning to overclock this system, but I’m also hesitant to buy a CPU cooler if my power consumption won’t support an overclock anyway.
Here’s what I have:
- x4 860k
- Gigabyte GTX 960 OC
- 8GB RAM
- Asrock FM2A88X Pro3+
- 500W 80+ bronze non-modular PSU
The PC part picker estimates around 344 watts with this configuration. If I upgraded to a better cooler like the GammaX 400, would my power supply still handle the extra heat for an overclock? I’m pretty sure my system is limited by the CPU itself, so an OC would be a big improvement.
Also, if the cooler I was thinking of isn’t ideal, suggest me something with blue LEDs or just a blue fan. Thanks in advance.

Which PSU do you possess?
A 500w supply should easily accommodate overclocking, provided the PSU isn't faulty.

CTurbo:
Which PSU do you use?
500w is sufficient for overclocking if your PSU isn't bad.
It's an EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze model, which I replaced about two months ago.
