I'm checking if overclocking your ASUS Prime B450M-A motherboard is feasible for a Ryzen 5 2600. It might work depending on the board's capabilities. For voltage and max GHz, aim around 4GHz but be cautious—exceeding recommended limits can damage components.

This board isn't meant for boosting performance. However, a standard Zen processor running at 4GHz typically operates near the 1.4V V-core level. Consider placing a fan right on the VRM area—about 60mm should suffice.

A fan is fine, even removing the side panel and using a desk fan directed inside would assist. However, it's crucial to keep the VRM area cool; otherwise it may overheat.

Heard the conversation about overclocking, though it seems many people think Ryzen processors aren’t optimized for it much. The improvements you get are usually small, and you should be ready for extra heat management.

From a technical standpoint, you're able to proceed, though this board is unfortunately quite poor and wasn't designed for it. You can observe how much performance you achieve and keep an eye on the VMR temperatures. As mentioned earlier, you could direct a small fan toward the VMR if necessary.

Avoid the first and second generation chips; they won’t perform well without tuning. Expect a maximum of around 3.6ghz if you leave them untouched. A strong VRM or efficient cooling isn’t essential for a solid 3.9-4ghz under typical conditions. Keep your VRM temperatures below 1.35v and your case reasonable—otherwise you risk issues. Monitor your VRM voltages, staying under that threshold will keep things stable. You should easily hit 3.8ghz by setting the voltage to auto. For extra performance, consider investing a bit in better heatsinks for the VRM parts if needed. My 1600 runs at about the same level as yours, achieving 3.9ghz at 1.39v with a mediocre VRM cooling solution.
