Can I overclock?
Can I overclock?
Hi everyone!
I'm using an i5 4670k and an Asus R9 390 on an MSI Z97-G45 with an XFX TS550 core edition PSU. I've heard that these parts shouldn't be overclocked because the R9 390 uses a lot of power.
Currently, my i5 runs at 4.4 GHz and seems to be fine. According to Cooler Masters' power supply calculator, I should only need around 459 W when everything is normal, and about 488 W if I overclock the CPU.
Can I still try to overclock the R9 390 to 1150 MHz and memory to 1650 MHz while keeping the CPU at 4.4 GHz? Will my PSU be able to handle it?
Thanks a lot for your advice!
It's likely you're trying to push the PSU, but you're already not overclocking. Keeping the CPU and GPU voltages at stock levels would be best if you truly want to overclock later.

You will surely be pushing the psu, you already are without an overclock. I would leave the voltages of the cpu and gpu at stock and get what you can get with that if you really want to overclock.
Thanks for the reply :3 (accidently chose your answer as the solution ROFL xD)
How far do must do you think i can overclock the GPU without increasing the voltage? I think I'll keep the CPU overclocked for now as it seems to be working well
