Hi, I have a Dell Vostro 7590 laptop with these specs: Windows 10 Professional, Intel Core i7-9750H CPU at 2.60 GHz, 32 GB of RAM, and a hard drive that is SSD with about 321 GB free out of 464 GB space. My computer feels really slow when I use it on the battery. Even though Windows shows High Performance in the battery icon, going to "Control Panel / Hardware and Audio / Power Options" only lets me pick between "normal use" and nothing else labeled as high performance. I can't change performance settings there either. In the advanced options, I just see things like standby time, screen shutdown, and what happens when the battery gets low. There is no place to adjust processor speed or general power efficiency. Even if I try to create a new mode, I still cannot get control over how fast my CPU runs. If I check Task Manager, I see that my processor is currently running at 2% and only 1.3 GHz (which is below its base speed of 2.59 GHz). Can anyone tell me how to boost the battery performance so it feels like it's on full power when plugged in? Thanks! Tony.

Using Task Manager, see what your resource usages are when both on battery power and wall outlet power. Something tells me your OS is corrupt and is need of a reinstall. Might be a good idea to see if your laptop is pending any BIOS updates as well.

The processor gets faster than 2.5 GHz, sometimes hitting up to 4 GHz when plugged into a wall outlet. The operating system isn't messed up (it was reset clean two months ago, and I updated the BIOS some days ago). Antivirus works fine, and the computer is in good shape overall. This issue has been here all along since the start (around four years ago).

It's a tricky setting issue: what should I do to get my computer faster when running on the battery?

I opened the bios and tried to make the processor go as fast as possible, but nothing happened. In Task Manager or performance settings, it always shows 2.59 GHz when plugged into power, which is just its normal speed. When I take the computer off the wall outlet, the speed drops instantly to about 1.6 GHz. This is really annoying because at that slow speed, things feel very sluggish. So I am looking for a way to force the speed back up when using the battery, but there are no options like that in this menu. Thanks a lot, Antoine.

Hey Tony, go ahead and try ThrottleStop instead. If you have trouble, send me some pictures or screenshots. Also, clear that "BD PROCHOT" thing from the main screen and see if checking the "MMIO Lock" box in the TPL window helps.
