Can I increase the speed of the fx-6300 on an asus m5a78l-m with usb3?
I am just beginning in the pc building scene, but I'm trying to assemble my first computer and plan to boost my FX-6300 to at least 4.2ghz. I have the following components: FX-6300, Asus M5A78l-M/usb3, Corsair Vengeance (2x4gb), SanDisk 480gb Extreme Pro, EVGA 500watt silver, Windows 10 64-bit, Zalman neo 1 case, and later an Asus Strix R7 370 4gb. Can I successfully overclock this setup?
FX 6300 already features a built-in turbo (boosted P state) of 4.1Ghz.
You might consider overclocking the stock cooler by adjusting the multiplier in the BIOS and turning off the turbo. Enable AMD overdrive to assess stability and thermal limits—keeping temperatures below 20°C during full load is recommended for safety.
With the standard cooler, reaching up to 4.4 / 4.5Ghz seems achievable. If you aim higher, investing in a superior cooler would be wise.
MB is designed to handle up to 140W, which isn't a big issue. A superior CPU cooler is necessary for significant performance improvements.
