Hi. I've looked into moving my Windowa 10/11 key but I'm still not sure. First, if I just reinstall Windows on the same computer without changing anything else, do I have to put in the key again, or will it automatically activate? Second, if I want to turn on Windows on a brand new PC with different hardware, what happens to the old one?

It will turn on by itself. You only need one license key and one PC. You cannot use it with an old machine while also using a new one. Does this code connect to my Microsoft account?

It's just a regular physical key, no digital part needed here.

If you visit microsoft.com and log in with your Microsoft account, does the software and its license show up there? Or do you have to check Settings > System > Activation instead? What does it display when you choose that option?

OK then, just buy it. Here is how you turn on Windows 11 for your computer. See what systems need this software. Go check your PC meets the rules and see if you're ready. Visit the Microsoft website at microsoft.com

I apologize for going the wrong path. I didn't know what kind of license worked best, so I was wondering if it is possible to move a 25-character license under these specific situations.

From your subsequent comments, there is no "transfer". You're building up a new PC, it needs it own license. Win 11 Home or Pro. Probably Home, unless you know you need the few extra features in Pro. Buying the license directly from MS, there is no "OEM". In the future, that license would be transferable so some new system.
