Can I create a dual laptop streaming configuration and what methods are available?
Hi! I have an older Lenovo Legion with an i5 and GTX1050 that I’m keeping around while upgrading. My current laptop is a Lenovo Legion 5, but its specs are different: 16GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 5600H, and AMD Radeon RX6600M with 8GB. I’m looking for advice on setting up a dual-laptop streaming-gaming configuration. I’ve read many discussions, but they mostly mention needing a capture card without much detail on microphone or headset setup. Since I’ll likely play games with friends and use Discord, I also need to consider additional requirements like audio equipment. My monitor connects via HDMI to my laptop, so I’m wondering if that will affect any other components. It’s a bit complicated, but any guidance would be really helpful. Thanks!
Hello!
To clarify, you're asking if it's possible to run the games on your new laptop and then record or stream the gameplay from another laptop.
It should be manageable. You'll require a few pieces of equipment, though it shouldn't be overly complicated. You'll need a capture card to transfer gameplay between machines. Elgato offers external capture cards suitable for your needs; you just need to choose the resolution—1080p, 1440p, or 4K—that your computer can handle. I think using the software that comes with the capture card on my streaming machine would be ideal for setting up audio correctly.
I see! Thanks a lot for the information. I plan to try capturing the card over the coming days and get it set up. Also, I know the capture card must be connected via HDMI, and since I’m already using that port for my monitor, how would I manage routing two HDMI cables through it? Since you seem knowledgeable in this area, could I reach out to you directly by other means or DMs if I need more assistance with all this? I appreciate your privacy and space. Thank you very much for your support!
In this image you can observe how the capture card links with a pass-through to a monitor and your previous laptop for streaming the captured footage. Your HDMI from the new laptop connects into the capture card, which then links to the streaming laptop through USB. The capture card also features an HDMI output that should be connected to the monitor for normal gameplay. I suggest running Discord and other services on your stream PC to simplify capturing audio on the same machine.
