The BIOS needs to be current; otherwise, the CPU won't work out of the box.
Thanks! But could you point me to a guide on updating a motherboard if it isn't already up to date? Thanks for your quick reply!
If the BIOS isn't current, you can't update it, or you'll end up with a non-functional board and might have to purchase an old CPU just to get it running. You could contact Gigabyte directly to confirm they have the F3 standard BIOS for that motherboard.

the bios should be current, otherwise the cpu won't function properly from the start.

What is your current bio? How does it match the one needed on the Mobo website?

What is your latest system info? It looks different from what's listed on the motherboard site. I haven't bought the board yet.

I checked the CPU support list for the motherboard, and the 4690k is indeed listed. This suggests it's compatible with overclocking.

Looking at the CPU support list for the mobo, I see the 4690k is listed. Does that mean I can overclock it?
http://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/G1Sn...upport-cpu
Yes, but you need the correct BIOS version to make it work. Is it compatible from the initial release?

Yes, but you need the correct bios version for it to function properly. Is it supported from the initial release? I believe so...
