Can I avoid using Microsoft 365?
Can I avoid using Microsoft 365?
So, in a final effort to enroll in the Extended Security Update, I linked my Microsoft account to a Win 10 Pro machine that typically only used local logins.
(Then I re-added it several times since other updates were happening and the MS user account would often vanish after reboots.)
I initially logged in as [the-MS-Account] and received these messages:
> "Wait while Windows prepares things for you if may take minutes" > OK
> Some screen trying to make me register to Microsoft 365 for 100 EUR/month > I decline
> Some screen trying to make me register to Microsoft 365 Basic for cloud storage for 2 EUR/month > I decline
> A screen reading "Did you know you can use Microsoft 365 for free / Just sign in and go it's free."...
I wanted to bypass this, even though it’s free. The only choices were to proceed or stick with the 2 EUR/month option, which kept looping—only leaving by registering for the free plan or shutting down the system.
Can I avoid this?
Edit:
According to Google's response, using a local account might be necessary.
But it seems that with a local account, ESU enrollment isn’t possible...
Edit 2:
I discovered a workaround. Before accepting > CTRL + ALT + DEL > switched to the existing local account > restarted the computer > logged back in via MS account. This led me to the next stage where you have to ignore bothersome Windows customizations.
(Uncertain if this would result in an incomplete user profile.)
Still, I don’t see a way to enroll for ESU.)
Are you sure you are accessing genuine Microsoft pages?
Just because Microsoft, ESU, etc. show up in the address doesn’t guarantee the site is authentic.
Numerous fraudsters attempt to mimic official platforms to steal information and gain money.
I’d begin by visiting:

I'm not certain about your point. It seems like you might have misunderstood. However, the description you provided refers to the Windows user profile creation process, not a website.
Information about the source for that "Windows user profile creation process."
Reason why a "process" might request payment and why declining it is necessary.
Can you provide screenshots of the windows where you are declining, etc.?
Screenshots can be shared here via imgur (www.imgur.com).
Something seems amiss.
This involves adding a user with an MS account and logging in for the first time. Windows sets up the necessary components on the computer. Usually, you might be asked to confirm using your location, verify your writing, or share additional details with MS. I generally decline all those requests.
Now, prior to this process, they introduced a screen to encourage subscription to Microsoft 365 using your MS account.
I'm a bit disappointed by the increased pressure in this direction but only slightly surprised.
PS: I can't take a screenshot since I'm done with that for now. I just hope the ESU enrolment option will appear eventually.
The paying option without MS 365.
I included the MS user in the hope of accessing the enrolment feature.
However, I could have added an MS user who doesn’t have MS 365 in any other context.
