Most people over 30 have probably heard that joke since 2007 or 2008, "Can it run Crysis?" Back then, the game required extremely high system specs to play well. I'm just asking if all the current AMD and Intel CPUs, along with AMD and Intel GPUs, can handle Crysis. Would appreciate some quick thoughts from fellow forum members. Thanks.

It was quite simple back then. A 1080 Ti could handle 60 FPS at 4K with ease. This suggests a 3060 Ti would match that performance as well as a 6700xt. Even at lower resolutions, lighter GPUs can manage it. Considering the game is about 15 years old, this makes sense.

Even the suggested settings for the remastered edition are quite manageable now.
The original Crysis probably faces issues with today's software, but the remastered series only requires a 1660ti to function.
I think the updated versions support multiple cores. The original game was built assuming a fixed CPU speed would increase over time, which turned out to be incorrect—PCs took years to reach maximum performance.
It’s unlikely that every system can handle it due to many slow machines still in use, but a modern PC should work easily.

Yup, as colif said, the game is extremely single core centric, basically only running one thread and the gpu thread.
Anything that is considered a desktop CPU should be able to run it at acceptable FPS, laptop or even lower CPUs might struggle though.
There is also no issue with the old version running on new-ish hardware.

The original CRYSIS runs smoothly on modern systems today. It’s no wonder this MEME keeps circulating. LOL. Mods, you’re welcome to delete this meme if it violates the forum rules.

From a more serious perspective, regarding the newest title, Crysis Remastered faced initial criticism over technical problems. At release, the game suffered from significant stuttering and was largely single-threaded. Fortunately, Crytek enhanced its performance through post-launch updates.

Crysis Remastered struggled with CPU-intensive scenes, often running at only 48fps at 1080p/Very High on a specific PC configuration. This included a system with an Intel i9 9900K processor, 16GB DDR4 RAM at 3800Mhz, a Samsung 970 Pro SSD 1TB M.2 NVMe drive, and Windows 10 64-bit running on a GeForce RTX3080.

In November 2020, Crytek released a patch that improved performance in CPU-heavy areas by up to 43.75%. Later updates brought even greater gains, with some users reporting an 81% improvement over the original launch version.

Here is the same CPU-demanding scene, using identical settings (1080p/Very High). Note the increased CPU usage, now utilizing all four cores.

I played Crysis 1 on a Pentium 4 single core and X1950XT, at 1200x900 with smooth FPS (mainly stealth) by applying some CVAR adjustments I made. Today almost any computer should be able to handle it.

From a technical standpoint, you're no longer required to use a video card to play Crysis or any DirectX game thanks to Direct3D WARP. However, considering the minimum "playable" card is around a GeForce 8800 GTX or Radeon HD 2900 Pro, NVIDIA and AMD GPUs exceeded that in the early 2010s at their most affordable models, while Intel surpassed it after Skylake—though I couldn't locate benchmark data for those. This assessment relies on 3DMark 05 results, which is the only information available for these graphics cards.

I still enjoy playing Crysis 2 from time to time. It remains a fun game for me, and it's especially appealing as I get older and slower, since these big multiplayer games no longer interest me. You've seen me on Fortnite too, struggling to figure out how to pick up and use weapons...I'm that guy who bounces around and charges at you with the mattock.
