buying new cooler
buying new cooler
Hello
A few years back (2013) I purchased a brand new computer with an i5 4670K CPU. It’s beginning to show its age, so together with swapping the graphics card, I also aim to extract more performance by overclocking it. Currently, I’m browsing through various coolers and trying to pick one that offers good value for money while still providing adequate cooling for modest overclocks. Air coolers aren’t available because I already have a high-end RAAM (replacing it with a low-profile unit isn’t an option).
So far my choices are:
- Antec Kuhler H600: https://www.mimovrste.com/hlajenje-pc/an...r-h600-pro
- Cooler Master Seidon 120V: https://www.mimovrste.com/hlajenje-pc/co...eidon-120v
- Corsair Hydro H45: https://www.computeruniverse.net/product...es-h45.asp
With a budget around 50€, I’m leaning towards Corsair, as it seems to deliver cooling performance comparable to more expensive models (like the Corsair Hydro H75). What cooler do you think would give the best value?
NH-D15S supports up to 65mm tall high-profile RAM, matching the same performance as NH-D15. When using a 120mm fan with the 140mm stock fan in push mode, everything works perfectly.

This model is highly compatible. Between NH-D15 and any similar dual tower, I strongly suggest choosing the NH-D15S. It’s very compact yet delivers outstanding performance.

It’s beginning to show its age now, so together with swapping the graphics card, I’m considering overclocking to get more performance out of it. I’m browsing many coolers and trying to find one that’s affordable enough while still providing sufficient cooling for modest overclocks. Air coolers aren’t an option because I already have a high-end RAAM (replacing it with a low-profile model isn’t possible). Which cooler do you think will give the best value? Here’s a reference guide: Could you tell me what type of RAM you have or its height in millimeters? Some air coolers might fit if it’s not a total no-go.

Hello
A few years back (2013) I purchased a brand new computer with an i5 4670K CPU. It’s beginning to show its age, so I’m also looking into overclocking it to get more performance. Right now I’m browsing through various coolers and trying to find one that offers good value for the price and sufficient cooling for modest overclocks. Air coolers aren’t an option because I already have a high-end RAAM (replacing it with a low-profile unit isn’t possible).
So far, my choices are:
- Antec Kuhler H600: [link]
- Cooler Master Seidon 120V: [link]
- Corsair Hydro H45: [link]
The budget is around 50€, and I’m leaning towards Corsair since it delivers cooling performance comparable to more expensive models (like the Corsair Hydro H75).
Have you thought about the Thermalright True Spirit 140? It should handle modest overclocks well. The Gammaxx 400 is also a strong option. Neither will affect your RAM slots.
As for AIO water coolers, the TH recommendations seem questionable because their acoustic efficiency rating doesn’t hold up when evaluating larger coolers or those with powerful PWM fans. In general, single-fan models don’t offer much extra benefit over a solid single-tower cooler. The Gammaxx 400 actually outperforms many 120mm AIOs at a much lower cost.
My RAM is Corsair Vengeance, 8GB with a frequency of 1866Mhz, and it matches the following link:

My motherboard is Z87x-ud3h. I don’t want to rule out an air cooler completely. After some research, I learned whether it would fit or not.
I have a Corsair Vengeance RAM, approximately 8GB with a frequency of 1866Mhz. It looks like this model:

And my motherboard is Z87x-ud3h. I don’t want to rule out an air cooler completely. I did some research and found out whether it would fit or not. I wouldn’t be interested in ordering something from a foreign country just to check if it actually works.
Coolers with RAM clearance problems usually come from dual-tower setups. The Noctua NH-D15 is a typical example. Single tower models generally don’t have these issues since they stay closer to the CPU. The Hyper 212, TS140, and Gammaxx 400 are also good references.
Here are links to the Gammaxx 400 and TS140 Direct:

These models don’t seem to cause memory clearance problems.
I have a Corsair Vengeance RAM with 8GB at 1866Mhz, which matches the model you mentioned: Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9. My motherboard is Z87x-UD3H. I’m not sure if an air cooler will fit properly, so I wouldn’t rush ordering something from abroad just to confirm compatibility. I’ve looked into it and found that some models can be installed depending on the setup.
If you prefer a pull-type cooler, you can adjust its position—either by flipping it on the other side of the heatsink or by using a pull mode instead of pushing it directly over the RAM. The Hyper 212 Evo comes with extra brackets for mounting fans, which could be useful if you decide to upgrade later.

- https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a...6835103205 (Hyper 212 X)
Both options fit within a reasonable budget and are suitable for modest overclocking. The nerd’s two cooler suggestions would also be viable.
KyleADunn shared his experience regarding compatibility. He uses Corsair Vengeance RAM with 8GB and a 1866Mhz frequency, paired with a Z87x-ud3h motherboard. He wonders if an air cooler would fit properly and found research suggesting it might or might not work depending on the model. He mentions his own black vengeance RAM setup and notes that the Hyper 212 could potentially block the fourth slot. He recommends using a pull mode for the cooler to avoid issues, and points to a forum discussion comparing push and pull fan setups. He also warns that this method only works with single tower coolers and advises against using NH-D15 or Dark Rock Pro 3 models.
Hey everyone, sorry for the delayed reply—I had prepaid a month but just put it off and now need a new one urgently. Thanks for all your comments. It seems you're suggesting that low-cost AIOs don't perform as well as air coolers at a lower price. At what point do they become worth considering? I've looked through some guides and forum discussions and decided to target a 4.3-4.5GHz range. For example, the Hyper 212 Evo cooler should handle it, or should I go higher?
The Corsair H100i has similarities to the Noctua NH-D14 (not the 15). Choosing an AIO would pair well with a Kraken x61 or x62. The H115i/H110i GTX is essentially the same as the x61 but with inferior fans. Swapping the fans on it would make it comparable to the x61.
