I love Windows 7, so go for 8. Classic Shell works great and you can navigate menus faster by right-clicking the start menu. (Installing Classic Shell changes the start menu settings instead of default OS settings, so you need to adjust it in Classic Shell properties to maintain that convenient feature)

It might be possible to assist with your malware issue right away. Edit: If needed, you may not have to reinstall Windows at all.

Available for testing with Norton and AVG scans. Identified by Adwcleaner, Malwarebytes, and Junkware Removal Tool. Could be effective temporarily but reappears frequently.
