Built too high and performance issues arise
I recently purchased an Asus Strix 1080 OC edition and wanted to overclock it. I installed Evga Precision X with a 1000mhz boost instead of the recommended 100, causing my PC to crash. Fortunately, it didn’t start up at that time, so everything returned to normal. The issue became more noticeable during gameplay—especially in Battlefield 4 at ultra, where frame rates dropped significantly, and games like Fallout New Vegas and Cod World at War showed unstable texture and object rendering. I’ve been trying fixes but feel stuck. Any solutions?
Consider removing Precision x and testing with MSI Afterburner or reinstalling Precision X.
Did not find any similar experience before.
Was there an overclock active during gameplay?
Maybe consider removing Precision x and testing with MSI Afterburner or reinstalling Precision X.
This has never happened before.
Is there any overclock active while playing the games?
Not at all. It's running at its original speed from the box. I've downloaded MSI Afterburner but haven't used it yet.
Are your temperatures normal? Does your computer screen occasionally freeze, lock up, or behave strangely during gameplay? This inconsistent performance is likely caused by thermal throttling or insufficient power to maintain the overclock. Simply reset your GPU to its default settings. Your GTX 1080 was already pre-overclocked at the factory and has minimal room for further adjustments. Consider keeping it at standard speeds instead. You might notice greater gains in CPU overclocking at such high frame rates.
Your temperatures seem normal, but your computer screen occasionally freezes or locks up during gameplay. Your temperatures are within acceptable ranges—around 55°C during gameplay and 35°C when idle. You're experiencing artifacts at the end of play sessions, which could be related to GPU performance. To reset your GPU, you can use either Asus GPU Tweak or MSI Afterburner. Your CPU is an i5 6600K running at 4.2GHz, which is overclocked.
Update: After installing GPU Tweak 2 and resetting the clocks to defaults, performance remained unchanged with the same frame rates and texture issues. It seems the problem isn't with your GPU, but rather with the display or software settings. You may want to double-check your GPU drivers and consider a hardware inspection if the artifacts persist.
