Hey there, I've got a QNAP NAS ready for storing my video projects and it's working on a 1Gb connection. For bigger files I want to move, I need a faster setup. The QNAP already has a 10Gb card, and I have a 10Gb card on my workstation—just what I need. I'm curious if there are other options beyond the new 8 or 12-port models, maybe even used listings on eBay? I'm looking for something compact, not a full switch.

The Netgear GS110MX offers the best value among new 10GbE switches for about $200. It features two 10-gig ports and supports 8 gigabit speeds. A full 10GbE switch remains expensive, even used, since few old units are being retired.

I believe 2x10GbE would suffice. I'll review that option next.

They offer a 2x10Gb switch for about $200. It's interesting to note the choice of using a 10GbE connection instead of a P2P link solely for your workstation.

You only have a single RJ45 port at your office, and your NAS is in another room linked to your home network. You’d prefer the NAS not to be placed on or close to your desk due to its size and noise level.

Monitor eBay for Arista 7050T switches. I've already bought them at a great price recently.
