Specs include an i9-10900K, MSI Tomahawk Z490, EVGA 3080, and 32GB DDR4 RAM. No overclocking has been done. The system runs smoothly with strong airflow. Recently, a BSOD appeared during gameplay about a week ago. After restarting, it functioned normally for a few days. Two nights prior, the issue occurred only during startup. Last night it happened again each time the wheel started. I removed the graphics card and connected the monitor via the built-in port. I cleared all RAM modules and tried another set, but the problem persisted. I replaced the hard drive and installed a fresh Windows 10 USB installer from a bootable drive. The installation process triggered a BSOD. With minimal settings (CPU, RAM, no OS), I still can't launch the installer. Even in UEFI mode, it remains inactive for days. CPU temperatures are normal, but the cooler seems to be working—heat is coming out through the pump and inlet lines. I’m uncertain whether the problem lies with the CPU or the motherboard, and lack the parts to test either. Consider checking another CPU if possible. Thanks for your help so far!
I just attempted three reboots and encountered three distinct errors. The first stop code was DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL, followed by KERNEL SECURITY CHECK FAILURE and ATTEMPTED EXECUTE OF NONEXECUTE MEMORY. After that, the system would spin and lock up repeatedly without triggering a BSOD. It seems completely random.
All the diag lights are not working. The BOOT light turns white only when there’s no HD or USB device detected, since it can’t locate any drives. This happens once the system starts the UEFI mode.
I changed the power supplies as a final resort, but nothing improved. Probably I'm stuck purchasing a budget 10th generation CPU to investigate the issue. My focus is now on the motherboard. SOB. EDIT: I also refreshed my 20-month-old motherboard BIOS, but it had no effect. I didn't realize that occasionally, when the system runs smoothly and the Windows wheel spins, the display appears this way—especially with the onboard video or my 3080.
It's a cooked i9 10900K. I recently got a brand new Z590 MSI and it's performing just like that. I believed CPUs were almost immune to issues nowadays? This chip was never really stressed during its life. It's just a gaming PC, and most of what I play are older titles, plus some light VR games. I keep the task manager running and rarely see it using more than 20% of its capacity. How does Intel handle returns these days?
