It may sound stupid and all, but I have an Optiplex 3020 SFF, which I'm considering upgrading. So far, I have chosen the i7-4790S as my upgrade path from the i5-4590. I'm unsure if Broadwell CPUs such as the i7-5775C are supported by the Optiplex, as there is no information on it. The H81 chipset itself supports it, but does the motherboard itself, though? Note: I do not want to get rid of the PC. It is a part of a personal sleeper project, and I want to see what I can do with only a 255W PSU on the older platform.

It doesn't appear to back Broadwell; I'm aware that support is mainly for Haswell.

Both models feature socket LGA1150. Intel's H81 is known as Lynx Point. Dell's firmware could restrict future upgrades.

That's understandable. It looks like you'll likely continue using the i7-4790S for your next upgrade.

It was obvious from the start.
