Thanks for your message. I've looked into this before, mostly hearing about it in the context of X3D chips. It seems like interest might be rising, possibly due to more people purchasing them or compatibility issues with certain systems. Some gamers are also driving demand.

I'm trying to minimize risks and would like to consider getting the 9800X3D. I'm unsure if it's worth the extra cost compared to the 9700X, especially since a failed build could cost more. I prefer spending more on something that's likely to work smoothly. If things go wrong, I'd rather have spent more confidently.

it's the only Zen 5 x3D chips that cause explosions, not just AsRock boards—most of those boards were affected too.

The 9700X remains a strong gaming CPU, though it doesn't match the speed of newer AM5 X3D models. The importance lies in the specific game, configuration, display settings, and GPU you're using. For example, with an RX 9060 XT at 1440p, noticeable differences between the 9700X and 9800X3D are uncommon but possible. If you're playing on a 5090 at 1440p or using 4K with performance upscaling, the 9800X3D will likely outperform significantly. Unless your card is the $200 model, it probably won't be a concern. What GPU are you planning to use? What resolution does your screen support? Which games do you enjoy?

Thank you for your responses. I plan to get a 9070 xt to skip the 16-pin connector and will be playing at 1440p.
