I mean, that sounds cool and all, but it seems the focus is more on the game than something I can fix... which makes me wonder if it's time to consider an upgrade. But that's just another story for later.

Oh wow, it looks like I've been stuck in a long time of not realizing anything was wrong. Any game I wanted to play turned out fine enough that I didn't notice the issues until now... Maybe I should start keeping track of my performance more carefully again. Will try the video fixes and let you know soon.

Unless you commit to spending 1000 hours on Borderlands 3, upgrading isn't needed. It's just one game. Try another Borderlands title and enjoy the advantages of high FPS. You'll get the same fun experience with any Borderlands game. Just keep shooting, keep looting, experiment with different weapons, watch enemies fall, burn, explode, and repeat.

You're absolutely right about the situation. The numbers around 6700k and 7700k were towards the end of the quad-core gaming rig period. The GTX 1080 remains relatively expensive, so you might need to invest more to achieve better results. BL3 also appears to consume GPUs without any clear justification.
