I’ve been dual booting multiple OSes over the years, switching between various Windows versions and Linux distros, and have resolved most problems I’ve faced. Still, this one remains stubborn. My setup started with Windows 8.1 Pro, and I managed to install Windows 10 Tech Preview without issues. After a restart, I noticed something was wrong with the bootloader—Windows 8.1 vanished. Unfortunately, I lost my original Windows 8 disc and don’t have backup discs or USB drives to replace it. I entered recovery mode and ran the start-up repair, but it didn’t help. I followed a troubleshooting guide from Neosmart, which usually works before other methods fail, but it didn’t resolve the issue. Then I tried Easy BCD to manually install my old OS, but the process had mixed results: sometimes it worked, other times it led to a black screen and error message identical to what appeared on Windows 8.1. For context, Windows 8.1 is installed on an SSD, while Windows 10 Preview runs on a spare HDD. I’ve confirmed no data corruption by checking files and disk utilities, and I’ve tested other drives and changed SATA ports without success. I’m running out of ideas and would really appreciate any guidance.

I plan to run both Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu side by side on my new PC.

I haven't done it before. I'm going to try it and find out what occurs.

Same problem again. I was able to figure out what the blue screen displays when it triggers the second issue. It's just an expression showing it encountered trouble and wants to restart, without any error codes.

It might be due to a Windows 10 problem. The update isn't complete yet, and there are several issues present.
