Hello, I see you're having trouble with your Dell Inspiron 3531 after installing Ubuntu. It sounds like the system is trying to boot from the USB but failing due to an EFI USB device issue. You might want to check the USB connection, ensure it's properly seated, and try a different USB port. If the problem persists, you could attempt a clean installation of Windows 8.1 from a USB stick. Let me know if you need more help!

Perform a clean diskpart operation, format the drive on your PC, and boot using Rufus in UEFI mode with a 64-bit ISO. Ensure UEFI is enabled so you have two boot choices. If needed, format via CD or use Rufus from another Windows machine. The Sandisk Extreme USB will act as a backup drive, and UEFI is built for that setup.

It means removing all existing partitions and files from the disk before installing a new operating system.

Open Command Prompt with admin privileges. Wait for DiskPart to load. Enter "list disk" to identify your USB drive. Confirm the correct one, as selecting the wrong one may cause issues. You can ignore the current PC if needed. Choose the number linked to your USB—here it’s 3 (your Pendrive). Proceed with "sel disk 3". In my setup, this removes all partitions from the drive. Disconnect and reconnect the USB, then format it on your computer. Only select large hard drives—here disks 0, 1, and 2 are recommended.

Yes, in Rufus you choose the 'MBR partition scheme for BIOS or UEFI-CSM' option.

You're asking for a clearer explanation of what "sub 8GB" means in this context. It refers to using storage that is less than 8 gigabytes, which is often related to device specifications or data limits.

UEFI may encounter problems with 16GB+ flash drives, though your 4GB drive should work. If it doesn’t, consider converting it to FAT32 and test it first.
